Ready to join a rope group?

You can feel it. That bit of excitement mixed with a bit of fear and trepidation. You want to join others who are doing shibari rope bondage, and you're a little unsure of what to do.  Maybe you have signed up for a class or event and now you have a bunch of questions.

What is it like to be in a shibari rope class?

Are the instructors friendly and good at what they do?

Will people be naked? Do I have to get naked!?!?!

What if I don't have a partner?

What if I love it and my partner doesn't?

There are a plethora of great questions that will fill your mind in anticipation of the event.

But first, take a deep breath. And exhale.

Repeat that last step.

Better?  Great!

Let me start by saying congratulations! You have decided to take a step that many never take to realize your dreams and seek out something that may change your life forever. I am excited for you.

I remember my first event, and I was certainly scared. So you are in good company if you are too.

As of this writing, that was seven years ago for me. And a lot has changed since then. Shibari rope bondage has exploded across the U.S. and globally. Displays of rope bondage can are in mainstream media, music videos, and if you live near any city, chances are there is a rope group near you.

HOW TO FIND A GROUP

The easiest way to find a group is to join Fetlife.com, the social network for the BDSM, fetish & kinky community. All Tied Up San Diego is on there as well as my account as SirKnottyDan. A warning about Fetlife, it is #NSFW (not safe for work). So be careful where and when you view it.

I will write in a future post about my suggestions on what to do if you decide to join Fetlife. But this post is about how to get started doing Shibari rope bondage.

Fetlife is the easiest way to find a local rope group, but it is not the only way.

Another possible way is to do a web search for Shibari rope bondage classes, which may be how you found this blog post. When you search, you will find many different groups from across the globe. Each group is different and unique.

There are many online class options, similar to what we offer here at All Tied Up San Diego. And just like all things in life, some are good, and many are not a good fit for you.

It is the beginning of May 2021, and it appears we will be moving back to in-person events starting in June or July, depending on the COVID vaccination goals being achieved. I am very excited for this to happen!

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A GROUP

Since you are probably new, those are the best things to focus on upfront. There will be plenty of other things to learn, and the first group you go to may not be the best fit. So, feel free to look for other groups and find the one that fits you the best!

Regarding the questions that I asked at the beginning of this post, the answers will depend on the group's event policies, so check them out and ask questions! Most group leaders love getting questions from new folx like you! I know that I do! So, if you have questions send me a message!

For now, I hope you will continue to reach out and follow your desires to learn about Shibari rope bondage!

Until next time!
