Our course instruction includes pre-recorded video instruction for our Getting Started, 101, and 201 level courses. The reason for this is, as one of our students put it, "it was hard to always see what was being shown" in the in-person classes. These courses have the combination of in-person and online elements.

If you are curious about Shibari rope-based partner practices but unsure where to begin, this class is designed for you.
Getting Started with Rope is a beginner-friendly, structured introduction to Shibari that focuses on safety, consent, communication, and foundational rope concepts. You do not need prior experience. You do not need prior experience or familiarity with rope-based practices. You just need curiosity and a willingness to learn.
This class exists to remove confusion, reduce anxiety, and give you a clear, grounded understanding of how rope is practiced safely and respectfully within our community.
This is a 2-hour guided introduction to rope-based partner practices and the surrounding community that explains not only how it is used, but also why, how people communicate around it, and how to participate responsibly.
You will leave with a clear understanding of what safe rope rope-based practice looks like, how consent and negotiation work in real life, and how to confidently enter rope-focused spaces without feeling lost or out of place.
• Core rope safety and anatomy awareness
• How consent and communication actually work in rope settings
• How people negotiate boundaries before, during, and after rope
• Why rope is used and what makes it meaningful beyond technique
• How to participate in rope spaces with confidence and clarity
This class is designed to answer the questions people often feel embarrassed to ask and to give you a shared baseline of knowledge with everyone else in the room.
This class is taught by Dan and Renee, founders of All Tied Up San Diego and rope educators since 2015.
They have taught thousands of students over the years and are known for creating a learning environment that is clear, respectful, supportive, and beginner-focused. This class has been refined and taught consistently for more than a decade.
More than 350 five-star reviews reflect the experience people have had starting their rope journey here.
After the class, there is an optional LAB practice hour.
The LAB is a guided, beginner-friendly space where you can practice basic rope concepts using the included Online Bonus Materials. Instructors and assistants are present to answer questions and offer support.
Participation is always optional. You may observe, practice at your own pace, or choose not to participate at all. There is no pressure.
Your registration includes over 90 minutes of online videos you can review before or after class, including:
• Rope types and safety tools
• How to negotiate touch and boundaries
• The Single and Double Column Tie
• An arms free chest harness
• What to expect at rope events
These materials are designed to reinforce what you learn and give you something to return to later.
A government issued ID for waiver and check in
No rope is required for the class itself
If you plan to attend the LAB, bring rope and a safety cutter
Wear clothing that feels comfortable and allows you to sit, stand, and move.
For those being tied during LAB, form-fitting clothing works best and helps the rope sit correctly on the body. Sports bras are recommended. Loose or bulky clothing can interfere with the placement of the rope. Clothing choice is optional during LAB. Participation choices are always personal.
For those tying, wear anything you are comfortable moving in.

There is something powerful about taking a simple strand of rope and using it to highlight the beauty of the person you are tying.
Decorative rope is not just about technique. It is about intention, placement, tension, rhythm, and seeing the body as a canvas rather than a puzzle to solve. This special Valentine’s themed class is designed for those who want to move beyond functional ties and begin creating rope that feels visually striking, emotionally intentional, and undeniably beautiful.
Instruction will be led by SirKnottyDan, with special Co-Instructors, Riggerus & Chris-Can-Knot

This course is designed to give you the education All Tied Up San Diego believes you need in order to begin to understand the risks of suspensions and to hopefully mitigate those risks through thoughtful consideration and communication.
Both Tops and bottoms must complete this course. Bottoms may be asking why they need this level of knowledge, and the simple answer is self-awareness. You need to know what you need to assess for yourself and about your Top when participating in suspensions.
Suspensions are a team activity, and both parties bear responsibility for participation in the suspension.
The course has questions with each training that must be answered successfully.
In order to complete the course you must complete each step.
The course will not be considered completed until all steps are finished.
Course Contents:
- Nine modules of instruction with 25 individual trainings including:
- Things you need to know related to consent, negotiation, and communication

This is an event many of you have been asking for!
Have you ever watched a movie where the hero is tied up and thought, I could get out of that!
Escape Rope is a Western Bondage style of rope that is designed to create a specific emotional response, helplessness!
Or not . . .
This event is designed to look at ways to bring Escape Rope into your rope play in a fun and exciting way.
We will discuss the challenges of tying someone into an escape-proof tie, plus the safety concerns that are very important to consider when trying to escape.
You must have a partner to participate in this event.
You will need rope, floor mats, and safety cutters.
*NOTE: The activity of escape rope is a higher-risk activity and should be considered edge-play for the purposes of trying to escape from a rope tie. Those that are being tied should clearly understand their own body and how to communicate their needs clearly.
Note: Doors Close @ 6:50 PM. If you are late, we will not be able to come to the front and open the doors. There will be no refunds or extensions if you miss the door.
Note: All rope events are conducted in a structured, instructor-monitored environment. Participation is limited to individuals who have completed the prerequisite training. This is a sober environment. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted.

If you are not familiar with the television show Whose Line is it Anyway, it is one of Renee and my favorite shows. We thought creating an event like this would be fun for the community, but with rope!
Participants in tying pairs will be given fun and challenging tasks that are designed to engage everyone in the fun and frivolity that can only come from these types of events.
Any measure of competition is purely for fun and laughs. Your skill level does not matter; all skill levels can participate as a Top or bottom in this event. Although advanced couples **might** get some additional "complications."
For those of you wondering just what might happen and to allay any concerns, this is what happened at the April event during round 1.
**1. Photo Play:** Top is blindfolded; bottom is given a picture and has to explain how to tie it to the Top.
**2. Upsidedown Ties:** Your choice, an upsidedown Futomomo or AFCH upsidedown, on the butt.
**3. Shorthanded Ties:** Each partner loses one hand and then ties the Hishi.
**4. Tops Design:** Tops are blindfolded and must develop a decorative tie.
**5. Tie One On:** A non-standard item is provided and has to be incorporated into a tie in a fun and innovative way.
**6. Speed Rope Bag:** Top & bottom are blindfolded. Together they must hang their rope bag from a hardpoint. First one done must yell Up!
and more . . .
We hope you will join us for this fun and entertaining event!

Rotation of the Ropes: Rope bottoms will gracefully rotate from one Rope Top to another, each time crafting a short, arms free chest harness tie. During which both Tops and bottoms will gain experience communicating and working with different partners in a structured and supportive environment.
New Connections: This event is all about forging connections. You'll have the chance to meet and tie with a variety of Rope Tops, expanding your horizons and building new friendships within the Shibari community.

What if I'm NEW?: If you are a Top, we want you to come to this event!
We usually have more bottoms than Tops so this is a great opportunity to meet potential rope partners and improve your skills. The only tie you need to know is the Arms-Free Chest Harness from the Getting Started Class. You will also need mats, rope, and safety cutters. If you need help, message Dan on Slack.

If you love being tied, this monthly gathering is a chance to connect with others who share that experience. It’s a discussion group for rope bottoms and switches attending in their bottom role.
Event Host: Sunshinne33
Bio: Sunshine (she/her) is a lifelong lover of rope, yoga teacher, and bottom leaning switch who joined the scene in September 2024, where she began to be tied by those who shared her love of shibari.
Like a lot of new rope bottoms learning on their own, there was a period of painful trial and error, until finding reputable sources for bottoming education. She quickly became passionate about finding more and since then has taken upwards of 30 hours of bottoming education courses, online and in person including somatics, injuries in rope, intro to suspension for bottoms and an 8 hour online “Essentials for Bottoms” intensive with Rion Riot and Natalie Rose. She is passionate about sharing her experiences and learnings to support other bottoms, both new and experienced.
Event Time and Atmosphere:
Location: The usual place
Cost: Donation-based - Pay what you can.
Prerequisite: None, Open to all rope bottoms
Role: Bottoms and bottom-minded switches
NOTE: While we appreciate the support of Tops in our community, we kindly ask that they sit this one out.
Creating a Safe(r) Space:
The conversation centers on the bottom perspective. We share knowledge, compare notes about time under rope, and talk through questions that don’t always get much space in typical rope discussions. Sometimes the focus is practical; other times it’s simply about being in a room where the bottom experience is understood.
Whether you’re newer to rope or have years of experience being tied, this is a place to talk openly, listen, and continue growing in your rope journey.
To help keep the space comfortable and candid, the group is limited to bottoms and switches wearing their bottom hat.
Come share, listen, and connect with others who love rope from the bottom side.
Supportive Atmosphere: Engage with fellow participants, share insights, and receive or offer guidance as you navigate your practice.
Skill Building: Make use of the time to refine your techniques and engage in productive discussions with like-minded individuals.
Join Us: We welcome you to an event that cherishes your growth, fosters connections, and embodies the essence of the Shibari community.
This is solely a discussion group; no rope activities will occur during this event.
Note: This is a non-rope event. Participation in this event is open and does not require the prerequisite training. This is a sober environment. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted. All rope events are conducted in a structured, instructor-monitored environment.

______________
Rainbow Rope
Rainbow Rope is a queer-centered structured rope gathering designed to hold space for connection, creativity, and community.
This is not a general rope event. It is a space built around queer connection, comfort, and community.
⸻
What does the night look like?
Rainbow Rope is intentionally structured to support both rope practice and social connection, with two distinct but connected spaces available throughout the evening.
Rope Jam Space
The rope area will be open for tying, being tied, or observing throughout the night.
This is a jam-style space where you can drop in, explore, and engage with rope at your own pace.
Social Space + Optional Circle
A designated social space is available to support connection and communication between participants outside of active training areas.
About 20–30 minutes into the event, we will open an optional social circle for those who would like to participate. This allows time for people to arrive, settle in, and get comfortable before joining.
The circle is a chance to introduce yourself, share interests, and get a sense of who’s in the room.
After the circle, the social space will remain open with:
• Light, low-pressure games
• Conversation prompts
• Space to meet and connect with others
You’re welcome to arrive at any time—there’s no pressure to be on time for the circle.
You are always welcome to move between spaces, participate as much or as little as you’d like, or simply observe.
⸻
Who is this event for?
Rainbow Rope is a queer-centered space. It is designed first and foremost for LGBTQIA+ people to gather, connect, create, and be in a structured, supportive community
We are not interested in gatekeeping identity or deciding who is “queer enough” to belong here. We trust people to make that decision for themselves with honesty and care.
If you are queer, questioning, exploring, or feel that this space is genuinely for you, you are welcome.
If you are not queer but are closely connected to queer community, you are welcome only if you can participate in a way that keeps queer people and queer experience centered.
⸻
What does it mean to keep the space queer-centered?
It means showing up with care, respecting names and pronouns, not making assumptions about identity or relationships, and being mindful not to dominate the room or shift focus away from the people this space was created for.
Note: All rope events are conducted in a structured, instructor-monitored environment. Participation is limited to individuals who have completed the prerequisite training. This is a sober environment. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted.
